Piss Executive Chef...

I'm a Pastry Chef working in an upscale independent restaurant. My Executive Chef boss happens to be younger than me and has insecurity issues about this fact. Oh did mention that I'm the only female in the kitchen. I'm having major issues with his behavior towards me, like yelling at me in front of everyone to make an example of me, saying really shitty things about me behind my back, and accusing me of shit I didn't do. Know, I love the owner, I love my Sous Chef and everyone else I work with. I'm getting crap for wages, but have a loyalty to the owner. How do I handle this with him, I'm getting to my wits end and am about to tell him to go fuck himself.

I have had this same experience...and found another job, and told the EC to go fuck himself... then the sous followed me and the pastry chef as well...talk about getting what he deserved.... He apparently left 3 weeks later in tears, esp after they found out he wasn't going on vacation, he was going to jail for DUI!

But, if you can't find something else... You HAVE to stand up for yourself. Tell him how you feel, be honest and don't get pissed, be cool...if nothing changes, go to the owner.

Good lord, sounds like where I used to work!
Wait, sounds like many of the places, many of us have been!

Oh dear, just line up something else and foook them!

I was so dedicated to one place, that when my car broke down 450 miles away from work, I called, missed one shift, and then rented one to get to work on time for the next day. I rolled it, totaled it, nearly killed myself, have no memory of it and NOT ONE of them ever called to see how I was!!!!!!!! I just got a final check in the mail weeks later with no letter, nothing. So there was my answer to how they felt about me........honey, you owe them NOTHING!!! So much for loyalty.

:) But that was just my two cents....you can decide for yourself

    Update..
Just found out my restaurant is shutting down in 1 month, it's going to be offically announced tomorrow. The irony of the whole thing is its just kind of funny to me at this point. I have 2 weeks before I go to burningman, which I have paid vacation time for. They have know about my vacation plans for a year. I really hope the honor their agreement with me even though they are closing. They shut down for business the day I get back. So I have 2 weeks to find a pastry chef job in dallas before I leave. Well I was bitching about the money I was making, so hopefully this is for the best. Well at least I'm looking at it as a new door opening for me, I just don't know whats behind it yet!

Talk to them NOW,chances are if they are closing they will try to worm thier way out of paying for it ,if you can, get your last check to include your vaca time .otherwise you may not find anyone when you get back to get your last check.
Ive been through 2 closures, your lucky you got notice.First place that closed that I was at the chef de cuisine told me days before they closed and if it wasnt for me nobody eles would have known till they showed up to find chains on the door.the second place gave us 2 weeks notice ,this was again because a rep told me he couldnt deliver because somebody had started going through the procces of setting up an acount for that address ,and he knew when we were closing( again I informed my staff after I told the GM he would have to fire me 'cause I was telling the staff anyway).
At any rate owners get shady as hell when they are forced to close ,so check now and get as much out now as you can( I generally dont condone this but don't be afraid to grab some extra stuff to get what you can out of the closure) as the owners will more than likly end up screwing you over.
start talking to your reps (swiss chalet ,Albert uster) I dont know who you use ,but your reps will have a good idea of who needs what around town ,and if they like you will often talk you up to a perspective restaurant -this is one of those give a little take a little deals, this is when politics play if your good at it.
